The artificial lake of Kerkini receives the waters of Strymon river. The lake is located near Beles mountain and near the border with Bulgaria. The area is ideal for birdwatching and it is a nesting place for various bird species. However, there is also abundant wild life around (in our case we spotted jackals and buffalos). Also there are buffalo herds and farms. For this canoe tour we chose the services of Oikoperiigitis. Its owner arranges various activities and owns also a hotel and a taverna. Many schools and families come here for the outdoors activities and for bird watching nowdays.

Kayaking/Canoeing

1. Check th internet page of oikoperiigitis about the overall activities and the starting points of your canoe tour or boat tour. 2. Check with Ecological Center of Kerkini-Beles (if you go by yourselves) how close you can approach by boat or by car in order the birds and the other wildlife not to be disturbed. 3. The buffalos live there for at least the last 2500 years. Nowdays there are many buffalo farms. You can visit one farm and even taste buffalo steaks amd other products . 4. Beles Mountain is interesting for hiking and history.
