What a beautiful spring day! Lots a folks were out on the trail to Stiles Falls this afternoon. I spent about 30 minutes at the waterfall. It was mesmerizing! I would have stayed longer, but some young whippersnappers scaled the side of the waterfall and I didn't want to be around to deal with the aftermath of any other foolish decisions. ;) That reminds me of why the falls are called Stiles Falls!
Randy (Randolph) Stiles was a sailor for the Confederacy navy during the U.S. Civil War. At a Sunday School picnic here at the falls, Mr. Stiles was showing off the skills he had gained by swinging from ship riggings. Unfortunately, the tree limbs and vines that he was swinging from here weren't as reliable ... he fell to his death!
Catch you later! ~Storyhiker
