One of our resident scribes, Melissa, has just filed this report:
Another great walk revisiting an old favourite, but with a new $9.5m, 3km extension (built over six years) from Middle Head to Georges Head. This walk starts at Taronga Zoo Wharf and finishes at Balmoral via Chowder Bay, Georges Head, and Middle Head.
We started with the first wave meeting on the ferry to Taronga Zoo. While waiting for the second wave, coffees were purchased and a quick stroll taken around the now-completed first stage heading towards Kirribilli. Great views of the city, a few rain sprinkles, then returning to meet our fellow walkers.
A sunny walk along the coastal track—fairly smooth with a few steps, lookouts, and glimpses of the beaches, city, and eastern suburbs. Short break in Chowder Bay, where a small statue of Alinta (a pioneer working dog Kelpie) stands guard outside the toilets!
Then to Middle Head and the new path—great sightseeing of the old military sites: casemates (new for me), gun placements, lookouts, and more. Views across to Nielsen Park (sailing stopover), a military ship—mine sweeper?—plus yachts and ferries.
A final stretch via HMAS Penguin and military offices and accommodation before a very welcome lunch at Pasture of Balmoral, accompanied by pints of beer and rosé wine to celebrate! Great walk, great company!
Thank you, Euigoo, for the new walk and navigation!

What a fantastic report—thank you so much, Melissa!
Another wonderful day out in the great outdoors of the Sydney Harbour foreshore. Thanks, everyone, for your great company!
Our next walk is set for Friday, 30 May. The track: TBD—possibly Barrenjoey to Avalon.
